2. Look at the whole picture; is your goal to do something that is already being done? If so, is your technique unique, or what value does it add?

3. Write specific content on something you have a zeal for. The easiest thing to see on a web page is ignorance or genius. Selling does not sell, information sells. People buy when they believe what they read.

4. Don't be afraid to ask for help. Many forums offer free site reviews.

5. Keep it simple. You can not recreate the entire web. Stay focused or you risk loosing your visitors.

6. Realize that the fees professionals charge are frequently justified many times over.

Search Marketing Tips:

1. Use a search term suggestion tool to find your target key phrases. Target specifically what you want and do not try to target any single word, target 2-3 word phrases. Overture has a free tool, and Wordtracker has a paid tool.

2. Anyone who guarantees a top-ten ranking without talking to you first or seeing your web site is usually a scam artist.

3. Use your key phrases in the title, page description, and throughout the page copy. Putting something in the meta-tag (a hidden tag in the header portion of the page) alone will not make you list well among 3,000,000,000 + documents.

4. Write for the human eye, not just for search engines. After all, it is humans you will be trying to convert to customers.

5. Make site navigation easy. In addition to good internal linking, good web sites contain an about us page, a contact us page, a site map, and a privacy policy page.

6. Manually submit your sites to search engines and directories. Only submit to the directories after the site is complete and functional.

7. Try to build links with like-minded people. A peanut butter site might want to exchange links with a jelly site. Remember to have them use your keywords in the links to your site.
